Dads On Display - Do You Disco

A relatively new track from this Washington, DC-area production duo blew me away when I first heard it. A rough synthesizer and chopped vocal samples drive this funky mid-tempo nu-disco track. Around 1:35 it drops into a warm, filtered synthesizer playing a comforting soulful tune before dropping the late-Adam Yauch's verse from the Beastie Boys' Rhyme the Rhyme Well

While their name suggests the musical project might be run by middle-aged men trying to escape the boredom of domesticated life, Dad's on Display is actually a couple of 18 or 19-year-old college students who got their start studying jazz theory from "top notch" players in the DC area, according to an interview with DJ D-Mac.

"My brother was watching this episode of Kid Jeopardy and there was this one really bizarrely worded question: something along the lines of 'during the summer months, dads are on display doing this,'" DOD's Rusty B told DJ D-Mac. "He made it a status on facebook and I just thought it was so weird that I jokingly made it the username for our soundcloud page. I feel like every artist says this about their name, but it 'just sort of stuck.'"
