It's 1983 and you're speeding through neon lit downtown streets of Miami in your white Lamborghini. That's how I feel when I listen to The Rise by Paris producer Matt Mendez. A fat, rounded bass drives this song while plucky, arpeggiated synths providing a percussive overtone. In the third act, a neon synth lead soars overhead.
The Rise is the second song on Matt Mendez's Electricity EP, which came out a couple years ago. The album "is really a personal thing where my 80s influences have taken over everything else," Mendez told the French blog Touchez Francais (French Touch). It's perfect for those hot summer nights.
